W elcome to the Center for Childhood Cancer's Biopathology Center located in Columbus, Ohio.

Our existence is defined by our MISSION, VALUES and VISION

MISSION STATEMENT

The Biopathology Center (BPC) is a largely government funded non-profit organization whose primary objective is the long-term acquisition and storage of a large number of cancer related tissue samples and related data for the purpose of supporting cutting edge research. Normal tissue and other diseased specimens are also managed by the BPC.

IN ADDITION…
The BPC operates under the guidance of the Columbus Children's Research Institute, in collaboration with The Ohio State University Medical Center.  The research investigators supported by the BPC are not localized to one city, state, region, or even country – investigators worldwide look to the BPC to meet their needs.  The broad diversity in age, geographic origin, sex, etc, of our specimen donors and the large number of specimens on hand constitute a large, statistically significant collection suitable for plausible research conclusions.  While acquiring pediatric and gynecologic cancer tissues is our primary focus, virtually any non-infectious tissue is accepted into our inventory.

VALUES

Our ultimate objective is to cure or control cancer, one of the biggest threats to life one might face.  We want each individual in our organization  ever-mindful of this challenging objective. Every BPC employee plays a vital role in this process, defined by the concept of CARES:

Customer Service is a top priority when working with all clients worldwide...

Accurate processing of specimens as they arrive at the BPC...

Reviews which are conducted in an efficient, organized manner, while always keeping the patients needs in mind...

Efficient storage methods are used to store the irreplaceable tissue samples for future research...

Selection of invaluable tissue samples served to dedicated researchers...

VISION

Our vision is to achieve national prominence in research through growth in specimen storage, enhanced diagnostic review services, expanded tissue processing services, and electronic imaging services. Enhanced diagnostic review services, which come in part from our partnership with leading review pathologists, include the ability to return expert diagnosis on a wider range of pediatric cancers. Electronic image-sharing through Virtual Microscopy (VM) allows more institutions and field physicians to obtain opinions and diagnosis from expert reviewers.
